College Prep Counseling

In the Senior Academy (grades 11 & 12), college counseling plays an important role in preparing students for life after high school graduation. 11th grade students take a one-trimester College Prep class that prepares them for the college application process while 12th grade students take a daily Senior Seminar to work through their college applications and seek guidance from our two on-site College Counselors.

The purpose of the 11th grade College Prep class is to help students address the following questions:

  • Trimester I: Who am I? How do the habits I am developing now help or get in the way for my future?
  • Trimester II: What do I need to improve in order to be successful?
  • Trimester III: How do I go about doing it? What are some of the tools I need?

By the end of the College Prep class, students have a better understanding of who they are and what they need to do to achieve their post-secondary goals. Students are also responsible for creating and presenting a College Prep Portfolio including:

  • Research on a variety of post-secondary options (i.e. 4-year universities, 2-year colleges, trade schools, etc.)
  • Analysis of top 3 schools including academic and financial requirements
  • College essay and personal statement

After completing the 11th grade College Prep class, students have the tools ready to apply for schools where they know they will succeed.
