Each YWLCS student is encouraged to pursue the broadest array of options and opportunities for continuing education and career development after graduation.
At the middle school and early high school level, YWLCS students take field trips to local colleges and universities. In addition, many students take advantage of a week-long Smith College Summer STEP-UP program in which they are exposed to college life and learning.
In high school, students have the option to complete an internship. This includes pre-requisite seminars focused on professional readiness, including business etiquette, resume building and interview skills. Students then complete a minimum of 25 hours during their field experience at a local Chicago business or organization. This experience is meant to broaden their knowledge of the world and the opportunities awaiting them.
In the Senior Academy (grades 11 & 12), YWLCS provides college and career counseling to meet every student's needs. Trips to colleges and universities as well as extensive support to navigate the college and job application process is provided.
The 2010-11 academic year was a successful one as YWLCS graduated 100% of its Class of 2011, with 90% of those students entering college in the fall of 2011. Click here to view our 2010-11 Annual Report for last year's activities and accomplishments.
