Greetings YWLCS families!
It seems as if the last day of school was just yesterday, and here we find ourselves preparing for the opening of a new year. We hope that you are as excited for the upcoming school year as we are. The faculty and staff at Young Women’s Leadership Charter School are eager to continue our successes and meet our challenges in 2010 and 2011.
The middle and high school years can be challenging, but can also be a wonderful foundation for students as they continue to grow intellectually and emotionally as young women in our society. We at YWLCS know that the best way to ensure such solid footing is to work together. Our faculty and staff can find success on our own, but we understand that the potential for success expands exponentially when students, family members, and community members join our cause.
This letter is the first of many communications you will receive this year. We plan to communicate with you regularly and we encourage you to communicate with us. We welcome your participation in the education of your children. Whether it is checking on homework assignments, reading together, attending family meetings, games, and performances, or volunteering at YWLCS events, parents, guardians, family and community members can make a monumental difference in the lives of our young women!
We look forward to seeing you during Registration Days:
We also expect to see you during Orientation week, August 23rd- 26th. Information concerning grade level family meetings is forthcoming.
This year we will continue to reinforce the fundamental expectations of young women in our school. We expect our students to be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, SCHOLARLY, HARD-WORKING, AND CREATIVE. We will reinvigorate our commitment to the COMMMUNITY CONTRACT, which states our rights and responsibilities as members of this school community. Please refer to your new family handbook for behavior expectations and new policies. You may also contact Mrs. Rae Leverette, Dean of Students, for clarification concerning the uniform policy, discipline policies, and attendance policies. We increase our commitment to helping our students achieve academic success by welcoming our new partners EdisonLearning, who will provide tools to support our entire school community: students, families, and faculty and staff, as we prepare our young women for graduation, college and university life, and beyond!
Let us create a relationship that allows us to work and grow together as we support the young women in our school in their journey toward academic excellence, personal and social development, and maturity.
Each student attending Young Women’s Leadership Charter School should know there are adults around them who support them and who want nothing more than to help them succeed.
Best wishes to you and your young woman for a productive and positive year at YWLCS. Please refer to the remainder of this newsletter for information regarding the registration process for the 2010-2011 school year, and other highlights. We will see you soon!
Phoenix Pride!
Sincerely,
Michelle Russell & Chandra Sledge
