2010 Girl Power Benefit Luncheon

Thanks to our YWLCS friends, we raised more than $400,000 at our Girl Power Benefit Luncheon on April 16, 2010 at the Fairmont Chicago! The Benefit was a huge success and we are very grateful to our Honorees, Keynote Speaker, the Benefit Committee members, attendees and contributors.

Why Support YWLCS?

YWLCS believes that expenditures on public education for our nation’s young people are investments in our future.

This year, YWLCS will spend $12,500 per student to provide her with a life-altering education. This amount includes all of the administrative costs, as well as the direct instructional costs. Though this amount compares favorably to average amounts spent in successful urban public schools, it is $3,100 less than we receive in public funding. 

Rather than sacrifice important resources considered necessary for successful public education, we depend on our extended community of supporters - program partners, volunteers, and funders - to help us fund important resources such as:

• Small Classroom Size
• Highly Qualified Teachers
• Enrichment Programs
• On-site Full-service Health Clinic and Social Workers
• Special Education Services to the Maximum Degree Possible
• Career and College Prep Program

With our wide network of supporters as a base, we are able to provide our young women with the quality of education they deserve, an education that goes unmatched by its Chicago public school counterparts.

What Your Gift Funds...

• $25 buys books for START (Students and Teachers All Read Together) class
• $50 buys 4 scientific calculators
• $100 buys reduced-rate bus cards for 10 sophomores to travel to their Internships
• $250 pays for a field trip for 5 students to visit one of our local colleges
• $500 buys graphing calculators for 5 students
• $1,000 buys a classroom LCD projector for quality instruction
• $3,100 closes the gap between one student's public funding and the per pupil budget necessary to provide her with a life-altering education
