YWLCS Proves it has Girl Power!
Thanks to our YWLCS friends, we raised more than $420,000 at our Girl Power Benefit Luncheon on April 4, 2011 at the Fairmont Chicago! These exciting Girl Power moments from the luncheon are headed for YWLCS history books…
- 800 supporters rallied together to help Chicago’s young women!
- Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel showed his support for YWLCS and his belief in GIRL POWER. He also announced he'll push for a second all-girls public high school in Chicago.
- Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole rocked the house and inspired us to be actively involved in our communities.
- Susan C. Levy accepted the Leadership Award on behalf of Jenner & Block, whose contributions helped establish YWLCS as the only all-girls public school in Chicago.
- Deniece Fields, the school's School Director, shared her vision for YWLCS and we welcome her energy, enthusiasm, commitment, and smart leadership.
The 2011 Girl Power Luncheon was a huge success and we are very grateful to our Honorees, Keynote Speaker, the Benefit Committee members, attendees and contributors! Thank you also to our amazing students who were on hand to greet our guests, showcase their school projects, and introduce our honorees and keynote speaker Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art and
former president of Spelman College and Bennett College.
