At YWLCS, we believe that everyone from families to teachers to community supporters play a role in our students' success. As a parent/guardian, here are some of the things you can do:
YWLCS has a committed faculty dedicated to serving your student inside and outside of the classroom. All of our teachers are available at least one day per week after school to assist your student with any academic challenge she might be having. Please encourage your student to attend Academic Workshop and/or Saturday School as often as she needs for homework help or other assistance. The after school education schedule is as follows:
During the 2010-11 school year, students will take several Interim Assessments to prepare for the ISAT, PSAE, and ACT tests. While these tests do not define our students, they are very important in evaluating where our students are academically and where they need to be. Teachers will use the test results to guide and improve their instruction, and to give students the tools and practice necessary to succeed on standardized and daily classroom tests.
Interim Assessments are new to the YWLCS curriculum this year, so please continue to remind your students that these tests will only help to better their education. You can help your student improve her test-taking skills by making sure she does the following before the day of the test:
Your student has been assigned an advisor who helps her manage her time, stay on top of her work, and assist her through any academic challenges. If you have concerns about your student's progress, please reach out to her advisor.
The Report Card Pick-up conferences are scheduled for October 24, 2011, January 20, 2012, and
June 8th, 2012.
