Health: Our focus is on food and nutrition, as well as eating disorders and prevention. We then study the senses. Students explore touch and taste and learn how to take care of their mouth and skin. Healthy Sexuality: We discuss aspects of human sexuality throughout the lifespan with a focus on puberty. Students learn to identify common myths of sexuality and are given tools to help them to make good decisions regarding their own sexuality. We discuss abstinence, dating violence, relationships and the importance of good communication, teenage pregnancy, STD's, HIV and AIDS and many other topics. Fitness: We practice circuit training and self defense and prepare for the National President's Fitness Test. Students also create new and unique fitness games, with rules, equipment, teams and goals. Junior Academy Fitness: We focus on cardiovascular training and developing flexibility and strength. Students complete a stretching routine and a cardiovascular warm-up with heart rate calculations. We also have a different sporting activity each week of class. Students have an array of activities to participate in. This helps to determine their abilities to work in teams and understanding new games/techniques and rules. Senior Academy Independent Health and Fitness is designed to encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning. The course is completely administered through the Edline website. The goal of the class is to teach students important aspects of teen health and tools to make healthier personal choices. Learning at YWLCS | Students at YWLCS | Suppport YWLCS |
