Technology lies at the center of every course taught at the YWLCS. Students learn how to plan, design and present information using programs like Microsoft Word, Excel,and PowerPoint and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Microworlds Pro LOGO is used to introduce Junior Academy students to programming. Students also learn how to use digital cameras, scanners, and LCD projectors.
Junior Academy
Students focus on foundation building and increasing proficiency in the fundamentals of keyboarding, Internet researching, and word processing. We expand our knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Internet search skills while working on projects integrated with Humanities class.
Students master the basics of PowerPoint presentation design and learn the proper rules of a professionally designed presentation. We use software to create Passport slide presentations and projects integrated with their Humanities work.
Senior Academy
Students focus on the basics of web design and expand their knowledge of web site layout, design, and creation. We use Dreamweaver software first to learn basic – and then more advanced – features of web page design. Then students create and construct individual web pages and a web site. The web sites are related to students' Humanities studies.
Students also learn to use Photoshop 7.0, image editing software, to modify photographs and scanned artwork and enhance the web sites they have constructed. They learn to adjust, manipulate and edit continuous tone images by using the tools and commands of this software.
