Overview of YWLCS Faculty

The Young Women's Leadership Charter School is fortunate to have a talented, energetic and diverse faculty strongly committed to the mission of the school and to collaborating with all those who want to help our students achieve success. We have a full-time staff of 53.

More than 60% of the faculty and staff have masters or doctorate degrees. YWLCS is proud to be an incubator for National Board Certified teachers, several of whom have gone on to principals’ training programs and PhD programs. Certification is awarded only after at least of year of intensive preparations, including video reviews of classroom practice, self assessment, and content area testing.

Our newly certified teachers and their subjects are: Kristi Eilers, Humanities and Cecily Langford, Humanities. They join Sonja Moore, Humanities, Thomas O’Shea, Humanities, and Alfonso Tapia, Spanish. Find out more about what it means to be a National Board Certified teacher.

A wide variety of colleges and universities are represented on the YWLCS faculty and the University of Illinois is well represented. Chicago area colleges represented include Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, Loyola, DePaul, The Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Illinois - Chicago, and Northeastern Illinois University.
