Academic Achievement

At the Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago every student is expected to learn and to achieve academically in our college preparatory program.

The school is divided into three Academies: Middle School Academy for 7th and 8th graders; Junior Academy for 9th and 10th graders; and Senior Academy for 11th and 12th graders. Specific academic goals are set for students at each stage.

The school has a challenging and supportive learning environment. Our unique and innovative curriculum; diverse and dedicated faculty; high standards; and
nontraditional evaluation system are crucial to creating a successful bridge from adolescence to college for each of the young women who join our community.

In June 2004, we graduated our first class of 60 seniors. Ninety-seven percent of our first graduates entered college, and 87% of them continued into their sophomore year of college in fall 2006. The Chicago Public Schools 2005 High School Scorecard rated YWLCS #1 in 5-year graduation rate and #1 in college enrollment out of approximately 60 non-selective CPS high schools. We are committed to maintaining this tradition of strong graduation and college placement rates for all our students.
