Preparing to Attend YWLCS1. Think college. YWLCS is a college preparatory school. Find out about colleges and universities. Talk to college students and college graduates about their experiences. Visit some college websites, and read their brochures. Attend a lecture or concert or public event at a college in the Chicago area. Start thinking now about your education after high school. 2. Read, read, read. YWLCS is looking for students who are curious about the world and who expand their world through reading. Get in the habit of reading on your own. 3. Stretch your boundaries. YWLCS is purposely diverse to help you get to know and make friends with people with backgrounds different from yours. Chicago has a rich variety of ethnic neighborhoods and cultural events. Sample some of them with your family. Learn more about your own heritage, so you can share who you are with others. 4. Prepare yourself. Practice good study habits. You will need good organizational skills to succeed at YWLCS, in college and in a career. At YWLCS you are expected to listen and pay attention in class, participate in discussions, complete your homework and turn in your assignments on time. If you are having trouble in school now, get help, so you can start on the right track at YWLCS. 5. How are you going to get to school? You and your family are responsible for transportation to and from school. Some families carpool or join together to hire a private bus service. Others come by CTA. YWLCS is easy to get to by subway or bus. Families who are eligible may apply for transportation reimbursement from the State.
